Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains. These long-piled rugs are made from vegetable-dyed wool and are deeply rooted in their way of life. The wool used in this product, known as Persian Variant, is derived from sheep living in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains. It possesses excellent durability to withstand these conditions and contains a high amount of lanolin, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, and adept at temperature regulation. The wool is dyed with natural dyes, and each Gabbeh is meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, resulting in a plush and comfortable texture. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Born from a climate with extreme day-to-night temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation. And then there's its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be used on the floor or even hung on a wall as a piece of art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving unevenness, and dyeing unevenness. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As a result, there may be a distinctive odor from the wool dyes. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipment if you request it. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
