Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability, developed for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of lanolin, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, and adept at temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-weaving this wool dyed with natural dyes, one by one, by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool sensation. And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used on the wool may occur. Please note that the smell will gradually dissipate with use.
