Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads, who hand-weave them using plant-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The wool used in this product, known as Persian Variant, is derived from sheep that thrive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains. It possesses excellent durability and a soft, pleasant texture rich in natural oils, which helps the sheep regulate their body temperature effectively. These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, using naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their exceptional durability, said to last for 100 years. Originating from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation. And, of course, there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the nomads' imagination, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be used not only on the floor but also as art pieces hung on walls. How about finding your own special Gabbeh rug, a piece that you can enjoy for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel thoroughly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and inconsistencies in weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present. Please note that this odor will gradually dissipate with use. We appreciate your understanding.
