Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are hand-woven, long-pile rugs made by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and for its soft, pleasant texture due to its high lanolin content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weaving each thread by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature changes between day and night, Gabbeh also have the unique characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor, or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Use a vacuum cleaner or broom to remove dust and debris along the nap.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
