Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a high amount of lanolin for effective thermoregulation.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their soft and fluffy texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as a piece of art.
