Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils to effectively regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And, of course, there's its artistic quality. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They are not only perfect for laying on the floor but can also be displayed on walls as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove detergent residue, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. The odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
