Characteristics of Persian hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who graze their flocks in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. These long-piled rugs, dyed with natural dyes using wool, are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The wool used in this product, known as Persian Valiant wool, possesses excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is rich in lanolin for effective temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, with this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their exceptional durability, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, Gabbeh also boasts the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often features designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also artistic enough to be hung on a wall.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If dirt is a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be slight distortions in shape and pattern, as well as uneven weaving and dyeing. Please understand that these characteristics are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Furthermore, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
Please note that this odor will gradually dissipate with use.
