Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a good amount of oil to help with temperature regulation. The Gabbeh woven by Iranian nomads, using this wool dyed with natural dyes, is characterized by its plush and comfortable feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imagination often feature animal and plant designs, and each piece is a unique original, with no two being alike. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for many years to come?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
