Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool to create long-pile rugs that are an integral part of their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant feel due to its high lanolin content, which helps regulate body temperature.
These Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads one strand at a time using natural dyes, are characterized by their soft and fluffy texture.
Gabbeh rugs are known for their exceptional durability, said to last for 100 years when properly woven.
Originating from an environment with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering comfort even in hot weather.
And, of course, there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a piece that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a wrung-out towel. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove detergent residue, then air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and color variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon shipment
If requested, the pom-poms on the corners or edges of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipment.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
