Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to effectively regulate body temperature. These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, is warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool feeling. And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created by the nomads' imagination, often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art. Why not find a special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap. If dirt is a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. The odor will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
