Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and contains a high amount of oil to skillfully regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. The Gabbeh, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, is characterized by its plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be used not only on the floor but also displayed on walls as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can also be removed upon shipment.
The pompoms located on the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed and shipped to you upon request. Removing the pompoms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish for the pompoms to be removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
