Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, hand-woven using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, woven by Iranian nomads with this naturally dyed wool, yarn by yarn, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Originating from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs are also characterized by being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And, above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug that you can enjoy for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap of the rug. For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur. The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can also be removed before shipping.
If requested, the pompoms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery. Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
