Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, developed to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a lot of oil to help regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-weaving this wool, dyed with natural dyes, by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing heat.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.
They can, of course, be placed on the floor, but they are also artistic enough to be hung on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please be aware that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
Please understand that the odor will gradually dissipate with use.
