Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, everyday rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content, allowing for effective temperature regulation. Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads with this naturally dyed wool, knot by knot, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being a unique original. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Use a vacuum cleaner or broom to remove dust and dirt along the pile direction. If you are concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
