Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, grass-dyed wool rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for surviving in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft to the touch, containing a high amount of oil to effectively regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using natural dyes on such wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, is warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a comfortable coolness. And above all, it's the artistry. Gabbeh rugs created by nomads from their imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can enjoy for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please be aware that these are all part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur. This odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
