Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product is exceptionally durable, having evolved to survive the harsh conditions of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a high amount of natural oil that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran meticulously hand-weaving each strand of this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their durability, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, of course, their artistic quality. The designs created by the nomads' imagination often feature animals and plants, making each Gabbeh a unique, one-of-a-kind original with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a piece you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pompoms removed for shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
