Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of oil for efficient thermoregulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And above all, their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
