Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai people, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven using naturally dyed wool. The wool used in this product, known as Persian Variant, is derived from sheep that thrive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, possessing excellent durability and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs are made by Iranian nomads who meticulously hand-weave each strand of this naturally dyed wool. They are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are highly durable, said to last for up to 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation even in hot weather.
And, of course, there's their artistic appeal. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs are made to be used for a long time. Why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung out towel or similar. Afterwards, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, then air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As such, there may be a unique scent from the wool dyes.
The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
