Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, from this naturally-dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find a Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time, a special one just for you?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive smell from the wool dye may be present.
This smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
