Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically graze the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are dyed with natural plant dyes and deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, essential for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture rich in natural oils, which helps with body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven piece by piece by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their soft and fluffy feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh are also warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing overheating.
And, of course, their artistic quality. The designs, imagined by nomads, often feature animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, sweeping along the direction of the pile.
If heavily soiled: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique scent from the dyes used on the wool.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
