Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, handwoven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing the sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
These Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their soft and fluffy feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing them from feeling hot.
And above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being handwoven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handweaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The smell will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
