Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains. They hand-weave these rugs using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs are made by hand-dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously weaving each thread by Iranian nomads, resulting in their characteristic plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last 100 years, attesting to their superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find a Gabbeh that you can cherish forever, a special one just for you?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and allow it to dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive smell from the dyes used on the wool.
This smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
