Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs, deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant feel due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature.
These wools are dyed with natural dyes, and then meticulously hand-woven, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads, resulting in Gabbeh rugs characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh are warm in winter and airy in summer, with the characteristic of not feeling hot.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Gabbeh are rugs that you can use for a long time. Why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
