Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are hand-woven, long-pile rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation. The Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads by hand, strand by strand, using wool dyed with natural dyes, is characterized by its fluffy and pleasant feel. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing heat buildup. And, above all, is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be placed on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find a special Gabbeh that will last you for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Precautions
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. As such, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool. The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
