Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs rooted in nomadic life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran using naturally dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is exceptionally durable, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high fat content for excellent temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, using naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Meticulously woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Born from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing discomfort from heat. And then there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original creation. They can, of course, be placed on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and variations in dye. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
