Features of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs made from plant-dyed wool, hand-knotted by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft texture contains a high amount of lanolin for effective body temperature regulation. These characteristics make it comfortable to the touch.
Gabbeh rugs, made by Iranian nomads who carefully hand-knot each strand of this naturally-dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, so they do not feel hot.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They are so artistic that they can be displayed on a wall as art, as well as on the floor.
Why not find a Gabbeh that you can use for a long time, a special Gabbeh just for you?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris along the pile with a vacuum cleaner or broom.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-knotted, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-knotting.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
