Characteristics of Hand-Woven Persian Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai people, who are nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, hand-weaving them using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture is rich in oils to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh, when tightly woven, are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing them from feeling hot.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They are so artistic that they can be displayed on walls as art, as well as on floors.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
