Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomadic tribe of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh, hand-woven by Iranian nomads strand by strand with this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Tightly woven Gabbeh are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, are also known to be warm in winter and airy, preventing heat in summer.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If you are concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Points to Note

Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used for the wool.
The smell will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pompoms can be removed upon shipment

The pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pompoms does not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
