This stone, mined in ancient Persia (Iran), reached Europe via Turkey, which is how the word "Turkish" became the origin of its name. Persian turquoise is known for its vivid, deep sky-blue color, often called "the color of spring skies," and is of the highest quality with high hardness. In fact, it was the first stone ever used by humankind as an amulet for protection.

In Persia, it was cherished as the stone of the royal family for many years, and this Persian blue was also highly valued during the Victorian era.
