The turquoise used in this accessory is called "shajar," and it features a natural matrix pattern with a mixture of turquoise and stone. Shajar means "tree with branches" in Persian, and the branch-like texture of the stone enhances the blue of the turquoise.

This is a one-of-a-kind original design by our store, crafted by the renowned Iranian engraver, Mr. Javaheri. Leather Javaheri was an engraver who worked as one of the royal family's jewelers during the Pahlavi dynasty. While lecturing at the Tehran University of Fine Arts, he created our store's jewelry from 1990 to 2007. The delicate designs, tailored to the unique characteristics of each turquoise, further enhance its charm. The back of each turquoise is individually engraved in gold to match the stone's shape.

Features of Natural Persian Firuze (Turquoise) Jewelry

This stone, originally found in Persia (Iran), reached Europe via Turkey, which is the origin of its name, meaning "Turkish." Persian turquoise is a high-quality stone with high hardness, boasting a vivid, deep sky blue color often referred to as "the color of the spring sky." In fact, it was the first stone used by humankind as a protective amulet.

In Persia, it was cherished by the royal family for many years, and this Persian blue was also highly valued during the Victorian era.
Besides Iran, the best quality source, turquoise of varying qualities is also produced in Australia, the United States, China, Egypt, and other regions. While much Arizona turquoise from the US is brought into Japan, this Persian "firuze (turquoise)" is rarely introduced due to its drastically decreased production in recent years, making it a valuable gem.
