This stone, mined in ancient Persia (Iran), was brought to Europe via Turkey, and the word "Turkish" became the origin of its name. Persian turquoise is of the highest quality, with a high hardness and a vibrant, deep sky-blue color, often referred to as "the color of the spring sky." In fact, this was the first stone ever used by humanity as a protective amulet.

In Persia, it has long been cherished as the stone of the royal family, and this Persian blue was highly valued during the Victorian era. While Iran is the best source, turquoise of varying quality is also produced in Australia, America, China, Egypt, and other countries. Much of the turquoise imported into Japan comes from Arizona, USA, but this Persian "Firoozeh" (turquoise) is rarely introduced due to its significantly decreased production in recent years, making it a valuable gem.
