Characteristics of the region (Sirjan)

Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silky Pichi" and the city is registered as a kilim production center by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their very dense and firm weave. Because nomadic women weave them from imagination without a pattern, their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are Soumak woven, have very little pile, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often have deep colors, with dyes extracted from cherries for red, eggplant skin for blue, saffron for yellow, walnut leaves for green, and walnut shells or tobacco for brown.
