Characteristics of the Region (Sirjan)

Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, part of Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silky Pichi" and the city is registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a kilim production center.
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely dense and sturdy weave. Nomadic women weave these without a pattern, based purely on imagination, making their delicacy and intricacy astonishing. They are made with soumak weave, have very little fluff on the surface, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often have deep colors, with red dyes extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skins, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco.
