Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically live in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are made from naturally dyed wool and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a lot of oil for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbehs are made by nomadic Iranians who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, resulting in a fluffy and comfortable texture.
A well-woven Gabbeh is highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomadic people often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and let it dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipment if you request it.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
