Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads, who nomadize through the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant feel with high oil content to effectively regulate body temperature.
These Gabbeh, hand-dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are so durable they are said to last 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated, not feeling hot, in summer.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two being alike; each is a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust along the pile with a vacuum cleaner or broom.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
