Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, nomadic people who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads strand by strand from this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from the extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And, above all, their artistic quality. The designs, created by the imagination of nomads, often feature animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and dirt with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery upon request.
Removing the pompoms does not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
