Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They use vegetable-dyed wool and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for good body temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant feel. Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven one by one by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, and are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and dirt with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
