Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are hand-woven rugs with a long pile made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai nomads living in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft and pleasant to the touch due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, from this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Created in a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be used on the floor, of course, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items. Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
