Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are hand-woven using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, essential for surviving the harsh conditions of the Zagros Mountains, and soft, pleasant-to-the-touch fibers containing a high fat content, which helps with body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously one by one by Iranian nomads from this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their soft and fluffy texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also artistic enough to be displayed on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dyeing unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique scent from the dyes used on the wool.
The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon shipment
The pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
