Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for efficient body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven knot by knot by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable they are said to last 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, is warm in winter and airy in summer, making it feel cool.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often features designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind item.
It can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed and shipped upon request.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
