Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool with a long pile, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and is rich in natural oils, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, skillfully regulating body temperature.
These wools are dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, resulting in a Gabbeh that is fluffy and has a pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece, with no two being alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as a piece of art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, uneven weaving, or uneven dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used on the wool.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
