Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. They are deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content that allows for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads strand by strand with this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are incredibly durable, said to last up to 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
If dirt is a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterward, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Tassels can be removed upon shipment
The tassels attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the tassels does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
