Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The "Persian Valiant" wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, essential for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which comes from the high oil content in the wool that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using natural dyes and individual strands of this wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool feel.
And, above all, there's their artistic quality. The designs of animals and plants, created from the nomads' imaginations, mean that no two Gabbeh rugs are alike; each is an original, one-of-a-kind piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh rug, a piece you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar cloth. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then air dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the handmade nature, there may be variations in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping if requested.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pom-poms removed, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
