Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs woven by the Qashqai tribe, who are nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their way of life. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant feel with abundant lanolin for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads piece by piece with wool dyed with natural dyes, is characterized by its soft and pleasant texture.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool feeling.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile direction.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dye used on the wool.
The odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping
The pompoms on the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
