Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for effective temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, woven by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Originating from a climate with significant diurnal temperature fluctuations, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, helping to mitigate heat.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on a wall. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool, which may result in a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
