Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a rich amount of oil for efficient body temperature regulation.
These Gabbeh rugs, made by nomadic Iranians who meticulously hand-weave each strand of this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, when tightly woven, are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Vacuum or sweep along the pile to remove dust and dirt.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterwards, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, then dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please be aware that these are all part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed for shipping.
The pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pom-poms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pom-poms removed for shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
