Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in nomadic life, handwoven by the Qashqai tribe, who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously handweave each strand, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for up to 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing you from feeling hot.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two alike, making each one an original, one-of-a-kind piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Use a vacuum cleaner or broom to remove dirt and dust along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the handmade nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handwoven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed upon request
If you request it, we can remove the pompoms located at the corners and middle of the Gabbeh before shipping.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish for your order to be shipped without pompoms, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
