Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are deeply rooted in their way of life, made from plant-dyed wool with a long pile. The Persian Variat wool used in this product, originating from sheep living in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, possesses excellent durability for survival and contains a high amount of natural oil, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, ideal for temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-weaving this naturally dyed wool one by one by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the nomadic imagination, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find a special Gabbeh just for you, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Tassels can be removed before shipping.
The tassels attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the tassels does not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
