Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads who hand-weave them from vegetable-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, from this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from the climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there's their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
If dirt is a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may occur.
The scent will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
