Features of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran using naturally dyed wool. The Persian Varianti wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for surviving in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and soft, pleasant-to-the-touch fibers containing a high amount of lanolin for effective thermoregulation.
Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weave each strand, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture.
Gabbeh that are tightly woven are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature changes between day and night, Gabbeh are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated, not feeling hot in summer.
And, above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh, created from the nomads' imagination, often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also displayed on walls as art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
